It’s almost Independence Day, but instead of getting fireworks Republicans are using each other as cannon fodder:

1)    House Republicans are playing impeachment bingo in an increasingly embarrassing episode of Gossip GOP. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he would support the impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland over the investigation of a private citizen, and now his spokesperson, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, says he is “just fine”with impeaching the Trump-appointed FBI Director too. At least they keep telling us the truth: they’re not interested in governing, they just want to use their power to settle political scores.

2)    It’s no secret that Chair Jim Jordan has been using the Judiciary Committee as if it’s a pro bono counsel for former President Trump, but now McCarthy’s Corrupt Bargain has come to collect another debt. This time in the form of resolutions introduced by Reps. Elise Stefanik and Marjorie Taylor Greene that would expunge the two impeachments of Trump. Why pass legislation that would help Americans when you can play lawyer for Trump?

3)    Speaking of the Corrupt Bargain, the House Freedom Caucus might be staging its own Independence Day against its arguably most vocal member: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. All because she’s been too loyal to the King, Speaker McCarthy. No word on whether they’ve successfully booted her or not, who’s going to spill the tea first?

4)    That’s not the only fireworks House Republicans are launching at each other instead of into the sky. They both appeared on Hannity last night, but not together. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer appeared first in-studio, then Jordan appeared virtually with McCarthy looking like they’d both been dragged into the principal’s office. Clearly, Comer and Jordan haven’t been talking to each other. Jordan has been saying for days that a special counsel is warranted in the investigation into Hunter Biden, a private citizen. Comer, however, said he’s “strongly opposed” to such an appointment and it’s “the most ridiculous idea any Republican could think right now.”

5)    The “most ridiculous” thing in Congress though is Comer’s own investigations, which have turned up no proof of wrongdoing by President Biden, a fact even Fox News continues to press him on. Yet, he continues to parrot old, debunked conspiracy theories. At this point he’s outright lying to Americans. Just yesterday, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin released a transcript that shows Republican allegations of bribery related to President Biden and Ukraine are total bologna as we’ve known this whole time. We enjoy watching Comer strike out swinging, but it’s time for him to be benched.
