“Kevin McCarthy took almost no time to admit what we all knew was happening — the corrupt bargain he made with MAGA Republicans to gain the power of the Speaker’s gavel means that American taxpayers are stuck footing the bill to protect Donald Trump’s ongoing ability to commit crimes.
“Even after Trump once again called for his violence-prone supporters to rally in his name, McCarthy declared the full weight of House investigations would be used to support his criminal behavior and attack law enforcement attempts to hold him accountable like any other American.
“For a party obsessed with “weaponization of government” this is the clearest possible example of the House GOP training its sights on law and justice, at the expense of the American people.”
