The House Republican Conference’s chaotic, dysfunctional speaker drama may be over, but they’re still acting like they’re in middle school.
- True to form, Comer misrepresented records in the Oversight Committee’s possession. He repeatedly claimed that a $200,000 loan repayment from James Biden to Joe Biden was not a loan repayment even though the check image he shared says “loan repayment” in the memo line. He did this even though the committee also reportedly has records showing that Joe Biden sent his brother $200,000 a little over a month earlier.
- Comer also may have realized (?) how thoroughly he embarrassed himself at his first impeachment hearing where his own witnesses told him he doesn’t have the evidence to justify impeaching President Biden. Now, he says he doesn’t think he’ll hold more impeachment hearings, that his investigation is in the “downhill phase,” and he is suddenly in a big hurry to wrap it all up. It looked like Comer had already hit rock bottom, but apparently, he’s aiming for even lower.
- Despite having presented no evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, a bunch of House Republicans in a room with Sean Hannity indicated they’d impeach President Biden anyway. One House Republican, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, even told Fox News she thinks they’ll vote on impeachment in early 2024. Yet, they insist it’s not a political stunt.
- Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan have decided that instead of addressing the real, serious issues facing the United States, they’re going to pester another local prosecutor. This time, the DC Attorney General who is reportedly investigating the co-chair of the Federalist Society, Leonard Leo. Comer and Jordan claim they are concerned that the Attorney General’s investigation is “improper and politically motivated.” Please. Don’t make us laugh.
- To round out the week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has brought back her tradition of calling her colleagues names.
House Republicans wasted three-weeks on their own political infighting, but instead of getting serious, they are back to wasting time and taxpayer money on their partisan political stunts.
