Today will be yet another hearing with Marj in Charge as a result of McCarthy’s corrupt bargain with MAGA to get their votes for Speaker.

The same MAGA extremists who have been taking field trips to visit the January 6th insurrectionists in jail while Trump celebrated them at his rally will be continuing their attacks against migrants and DHS – including threatening to defund them.

The hearing will be full of stunts and rhetoric from MAGA grifters competing for FOX hits.

What you won’t hear about is any legislation to actually deal with our immigration system because Republicans are locked in an internal death match over it. The MAGA bills on immigration are so cruel and extreme they can’t even get 218 votes in their own conference for what they said was going to be one of their first bills passed in the majority.

Republicans’ History of Cruelty Shows They Can’t Fix the Issues at the Border

Homeland Security Committee Member, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Has Focused On Making Threats Against DHS And Praising Cruel Stunts Against Migrants

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE THREATENED SECRETARY MAYORKAS AND ECHOD SENTIMENTS FROM OTHER REPUBLICANS IN FAVOR OF DEFUNDING BORDER SECURITY

Marjorie Taylor Greene: ‘Secretary Mayorkas Is Going To Be Impeached And  Honestly, If He Knows What’s Good For Him And His Future Career, He Should Go Ahead And Resign.’” [Patriot Takes, Twitter, 1/28/23]

Rep. Chip Roy Indicated That He Would Be In Favor Of Cutting Funds For The Department Of Homeland Security. “Similarly, one of the chief hard-right negotiators of the speakership deal, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.), on Monday pointed to another large federal agency that he argued should be in line for cuts: the Department of Homeland Security.” [Washington Post, 1/10/23]

  • Roy Claimed That The United States Would Have To “Stop Funding” The Department Of Homeland Security To Secure The Border Of The United States. “But Roy’s line of reasoning appears to be pretty new for a GOP lawmaker. ‘So it’s time right now for the House majority to do our job,’ Roy said, ‘and we’re going to have to stop funding a Department of Homeland Security that refuses to secure the border of the United States.’” [Washington Post, 1/10/23]

Chip Roy Claimed He Wouldn’t Support Funding For The Department Of Homeland Security Without A Certain Level Of Reform, “We’re Going To Change The Policies Or We’re Not Going To Move Anything Through Here.” “Meanwhile, Roy drew his own red line, warning he won’t support just throwing money at DHS: ‘We’re going to change the policies or we’re not going to move anything through here.’” [Politico, 3/17/23]

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE CALLED THE CRUEL RELOCATION OF MIGRANTS “FUNNY” AND CLAIMED IT MADE FOR “GREAT HEADLINES”

Marjorie Taylor Greene Called The Relocation Of Migrants ‘Funny.’ According to Newsweek, “The far-right Georgia Republican’s remarks to a local GOP group were published Thursday by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. GOP Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida have been applauded by their conservative bases for relocating migrants to liberal enclaves, while critics denounced their efforts as cruel stunts carried out for political gain. Greene said she opposed the transportation of migrants across the country for other reasons, but said that the situation was still ‘funny.’” [Newsweek, 10/27/22]

  • Greene Said Migrant Drop Offs Made ‘Great Headlines.’ According to Newsweek, ‘“Now, I know it makes great headlines on Fox News, and we laugh about it and it’s funny when we see busloads get dropped off, like in Martha’s Vineyard, we’re, like, ‘Ha ha ha.’ You know?’ Greene said at the Whitfield County Republican Party headquarters in rural northwest Georgia. ‘Or we see them dropped off in front of Kamala Harris’ house, and we’re like, ‘Oh, the border czar, should she care now.’” [Newsweek, 10/27/22]

Republicans Have A Long Track Record Of Being Useless When It Comes To Immigration Reform, This Congress Proves To Be No Different

REPUBLICANS CAN’T FIX IMMIGRATION LAWS – THEIR PARTY’S INFIGHTING AND HISTORY OF FAILURES SHOWS THEY AREN’T UP FOR IT

Washington Post: Early Rift Over Immigration Exposes House GOP’s Tough Path To Consensus. [Washington Post, 1/23/23]

January 2023: Chip Roy Introduced An Immigration Reform Bill That Dozens Of Republican Members Worried Over Due To The Measure Potentially Banning Asylum Seeking Migrants And Unaccompanied Children Fleeing Violence From Being Able To Seek Refuge In The United States. “The bill, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) and co-sponsored by 58 Republicans, would empower the Homeland Security secretary — currently Alejandro Mayorkas — to unilaterally bar all undocumented migrants from entering the United States through any point of entry if the secretary deems it necessary to reestablish “operational control” of the border. If immigration agencies cannot, for any reason, process undocumented migrants according to legal procedures, a similar response by the secretary would be required. If the secretary does not follow through, the bill would provide state attorneys general the authority to sue the federal government. But the scope of the three-page bill has rattled dozens of House Republicans, many of whom worry it would prevent migrants and unaccompanied children fleeing violence from seeking asylum in the United States.” [Washington Post, 1/23/23]

  • March 2023: Infighting Between Rep. Gonzales And Rep. Roy Continued Over Immigration Related Plans. “Jordan pointed to bills by GOP Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Tom Tiffany (Wis.) and Chip Roy (Texas) as options for a border security package that his committee is expected to soon consider. Roy’s bill, which critics even in his own party fear would bar asylum claims as currently known, fueled his party’s legislative heartburn earlier this year by sparking pushback from more centrist conference colleagues. That included Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), who is now openly feuding with Roy over border and immigration policies.” [Politico, 3/17/23]

In 2018, The GOP-Controlled Congress Couldn’t Even Get President Donald Trump To Support Their Immigration Reform Bill, Which Failed In The House By A Huge Margin

June 2018:  H.R.6136 – Border Security And Immigration Reform Act Of 2018 – “Failed Of Passage/Not Agreed To In House: On Passage Failed By Recorded Vote: 121 – 301” [Roll Call, H.R. 6136, 115th Congress, 6/27/18]

CNN: House Republicans Abandoned A GOP-Leadership Backed Immigration Reform Bill, Which Went On To Fail 121-301. “House Republicans abandoned a GOP leadership-backed immigration bill Wednesday, the latest setback in the years-long intraparty war between Republicans on the polarizing issue. The bill, which was never expected to pass, failed by an even wider margin than expected – 121-301 – and had far less Republican support than a more conservative bill that failed last week. With little fanfare and erratic presidential support, the bill represented House Republicans’ most steadfast effort in decades to find a compromise between moderates and conservatives, legislation that would have provided a path to citizenship for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, as well as $25 billion for border security, including the President’s border wall.” [CNN, 6/27/18]

Members Claimed It Would Only Work If President Trump Backed The Measure, But Trump Repeatedly Flip-Flopped On His Support. “‘This only works if Trump’s behind us,’ one member said. ‘No use sticking out our necks if the bill’s going to fail.’ In the last few weeks, President Donald Trump has sent mixed messages. At first, Trump said he wouldn’t back the compromise bill in an interview with Fox News only to have his staff issue a statement later that day saying he would back it. Then, after visiting Capitol Hill himself Tuesday last week and dispatching Cabinet officials to Capitol Hill, Trump tweeted Friday that members of Congress were wasting their time.” [CNN, 6/27/18]
